In 2016 DeTour Township began sponsoring an outdoor Christmas light contest for businesses and residents. It's a bright and beautiful time of year.
Christmas in the Village
Fish On ... Hopefully. This three day event started in 1982, and is a huge draw to anglers around the mid-west. Locally sponsored, this tournament is held on the St Mary's the first week in August. Great prizes and bragging rights ... plus the local Boy Scout Troop holds a fish fry during awards ceremony.
Since 2005, Eastern Upper Peninsula Fine Arts Council (EUPFAC) has been hosting a Street Fair on Ontario Street in DeTour Village. On the 4th Saturday in July, between the streets of George and Midway Plaisance, many local and regional art vendors offer their creations.
It's been going on for what seems forever ... Santa arrives in town about 5:30 Christmas Eve. He jumps aboard one of our fire trucks and travels the village streets, spreading good cheer.
At 6:00pm he stops at the Fire Hall, where he spends time with children who have gathered.
By 7:15 he is back in the air enroute to another village, and more boys and girls.
Oh what fun we have on the first Saturday in December. From pancake breakfast with Santa, specials at businesses throughout town, arts and craft events at community halls, and many patrons mingling along the streets enjoying Christmas spirit and decorations. This DeTour Village tradition is a kickoff to the holidays.

Festivals & Gatherings
Light Up the Village
In 2016 local residents began transforming a few loops of our snowshoe trails into a spooky trail, with a goal of frightening kids (and adults) of all ages. After a loop around our haunted trail folks gather around a warm bonfire and share a scary story or two. Join us on the 3rd Saturday in October.
In 2015 we decided to enjoy a winter evening together ... outside. Hosted by local residents on the first Saturday evening in March, this winter festival provides participants a lantern lit snow shoe trail, a warm bonfire, hot dogs and hot chocolate. It's a real "cool" event enjoyed by many.
Spook Night &
In 2015 we officially began a celebration of the St Mary's River ... the St. Mary's River has been the livelihood of our community for over 100 years. Held on the first Saturday in August each year from 10am to 10pm, you will enjoy food, fun, and music for all ages. In addition, we have special appearances from various specialty boats, and river tours. This event gains momentum each year.
If you're coming to town to enjoy one of our concerts, plays or festivals and need some place to stay, check out our list of warm and cozy places to rent .
Street Art Fair
Check out our community calendar for dates on these, and many other events around town.
A long standing tradition in the village, DeTour celebrates America's Independence Day on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of each July.
We have children's games, multiple concerts, a parade, float contest, fire works, cook-outs, 5k run, and much, much more.
